Hello, and welcome to my page! My name is Tara O'Neill and this is my first year as a teacher at Washington Middle School! I am very excited to be here. I will be teaching 8th grade Science in Cluster 3.
I graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2012 with a Bachelor's in Geological Sciences. I recently finished my Master's in Secondary Science Education in June of 2013. My teaching certification is in both Earth and General Science. As a component of my Master's program I had the opportunity to intern at Washington Middle School during the 2012-2013 academic year.
I love science and I do what I can to make it interesting for all students. We will do a lot in class but there will be frequent homework, particularly in science skills and math relevant to science. This work is meant to help you practice your skills. These assignments are important to make methods and problem solving strategies second nature. Although they aren't always the most exciting thing to do, problems help you really cement this stuff. I will do whatever I can to spend as much time doing labs and other hands-on activities as these are more interesting than lectur and allow students to take control of their own learning.
I hope this is a rewarding year for all and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
